The Sidhe (Singular Sídh) are mounds of earth said to be the underground dwelling places of the People of the Sidhe, the Tuatha Dé Danann, or People of the Goddess Danú who came to Ireland long ago. They made many stories of great prowess and romance before they went to their Underworld, to be cast by some into superstition. This collection hosts some of the stories from the Irish repertoire and are all told from the perspectives of the women. For whoever inhabits them, these stories are indeed places to go, other worlds, journeys to realms within ourselves that hold the potential for us to come back changed, and all are threaded by the presence of the People of the Goddess.
Kathy Tynan
Kathy Tynan (b.1984) makes paintings which typically depict details and particularities of urban and domestic scenes. Her direct and energetic approach to the painted surface favours liveliness over correctness of representation. While her paintings are figurative, the real subject matter of her work is the moment of encounter within the everyday when the ordinary or usually overlooked becomes illuminated.
Kathy is represented by Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, Dublin
