Description

Bray was a booming town in 1870 - an expanding new resort offering seaside holidays and expeditions to the beauty spots of County Wicklow.  The journey from Dublin by train was a novelty.  Quinsborough Road, Meath Road, Herbert Road and Strand Road had all been laid out across green fields within the previous 20 years.  The International Hotel on Quinsborough Road was the largest hotel in Ireland and there were dances and concerts in the Turkish Baths assembly rooms.

This high quality reproduction of Heffernan's plan of bray and his delightful views recaptures the spirit of Bray when it was truly the 'Brighton of Ireland'
